The legendary Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar expressed his sorrow over the passing of former left-arm spinner Dilip Doshi, who passed away in London at the age of 77 on Monday.
In a post on X, Tendulkar shared, "I first met Dilipbhai in the UK in 1990, where he bowled to me during practice. He had a special fondness for me, which I cherished. A kind-hearted person like Dilipbhai will be greatly missed. I will miss our cricket discussions. May his soul find peace. Om Shanti."
Dilip Doshi represented India in 33 Test matches and 15 One Day Internationals from 1979 to 1983, claiming 114 wickets in Tests and 22 in ODIs. He made a remarkable Test debut during the 1979 series against Australia in Chennai, where he took 6 wickets for 103 runs and achieved match figures of 8 for 167. He is among the few Indian cricketers to have taken a five-wicket haul in their debut Test innings, a feat accomplished by only eight players in Indian cricket history.
In addition to his international career, Doshi had a successful domestic stint, playing for Saurashtra and Bengal in the Ranji Trophy. He also made his mark in county cricket in England with Nottinghamshire and Warwickshire, finishing his first-class career with a total of 898 wickets.
