He began his journey without the classic launchpad or big banner support yet his sheer talent and perseverance carved a space for him among the greats. With each film he challenged conventions and brought life to characters that stayed etched in memory. Known for his intense roles and international acclaim he seamlessly moved between commercial hits and critically acclaimed gems. His journey from humble beginnings to global recognition is a story of grit and brilliance. However his one film that involved more than 200 people was not able to leave its mark on history. Shah Rukh Khan’s Failed Experiment: Fan Here we are talking about King Khan of Bollywood Shah Rukh Khan and his 2016 film ‘Fan’ helmed by Maneesh Sharma. To make this a good film and etch its name in history the makers worked hard not only on the script but also on the VFX. It took about one and a half years to prepare the VFX of this film which also included research and development work. Fan was a unique film in which Shah Rukh Khan played two different characters - one superstar Aryan Khanna and the other his crazy fan Gaurav Chandana. VFX played a huge role in bringing both these characters alive. To make the character of Gaurav special a team of 200 people from Red Chillies VFX worked on digitally giving Shah Rukhs face a younger and different look. In this process cutting-edge techniques were used to make the facial details skin texture and expressions look real. The team did extensive research for this project so that the difference between the two characters looked clear and believable. The VFX work was so complex that every scene was checked and perfected again and again. For this the artists used many software and tools including motion capture and 3D modeling. The Reception Of Fan After Its Release Despite all the hard work and money spent this film of Shah Rukh Khan could not do anything special at the box office. Due to the weak story this film of King Khan proved to be a huge flop at the box office. However Fan got a good opening at the box office. Despite this the weak story could not attract the audience. On its opening day ‘Fan’ collected Rs 19.20 crore in India the fourth-highest for a Khan film at the time. Compared to the total gross of Rs 52.35 crore collected in first week the film only managed to collect Rs 7.75 crore in the second week indicating a drop of 85 percent as it had a budget of Rs 105 crore. Its gross in India was Rs 120 crore and the worldwide gross was around Rs 188.4 crore.
