The two went public with their relationship in 2019, got engaged in 2023 and now will tie the knot in Venice, Italy in a high-profile wedding. By some estimates, the cost for the whole shindig may have run Bezos up to more than $21.5 million.

However, Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez are doing away with one major wedding tradition. As the couple gears up to exchange vows in Venice amid the shadow of protests, they have given their guests specific instructions for the extravagant affair, reports E Online.

Jeff Bezos-Lauren Sanchez's request to guests

Bezos and his bride-to-be say they don’t want any gifts ahead of a destination wedding already marred by mounting local protests. “We’re excited for you to join us! We have one early request: please, no gifts,” a leaked copy of Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez’s wedding invite, obtained by Good Morning America, reads.

The couple adds that “with gratitude to you for making the journey to celebrate with us in Venice,” they’ll be making donations on their guest’s behalf to a number of institutions in the city.

In the invite, which was sent to guests in May, the couple listed three charities that hold special meaning to them.

“Donations on your behalf are being made to the UNESCO Venice Office to safeguard the city’s irreplaceable cultural heritage,” the invitation stated, “to CORILA to restore the lagoon habitats that protect Venice’s future, and to Venice International University to support research and education for sustainable solutions.”

The wedding ceremony of Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez are scheduled to take place in the city over three days later this week, the couple is facing massive backlash from the public from outraged Venetians. Locals say the celebrations will further disrupt day-to-day life for residents who are being increasingly displaced by mass tourism, reports The Daily Beast.

“We will block the canals, line the streets with our bodies, block the canals with inflatables, dinghies, boats,” one protester previously told CNN amid reports that ahead of the event, local officials have block-booked all of the Venice’s nine yacht ports, reserved a large share of the city’s iconic water taxis, closed off a number of historic venues, and banned drones from the surrounding airspace.

The multi-day-long extravaganza of celebrations are set for this week in Venice, Italy, as the couple tie the knot in front of a rumored 200 guests, which include Kim Kardashian, Ivanka Trump and Orlando Bloom. In the days leading up to their nuptials, Jeff, 61, and Lauren, 55, have certainly been enjoying all that Europe has to offer. They hosted a foam party on the Amazon founder’s $500 million yacht off the coast of Croatia June 22, which doubled as a 19th birthday celebration for the bride-to-be’s son Evan.
