CBSE Board Exams 2026: CBSE approved the norms to conduct class 10 board exams twice a year from 2026. This information has been given by Controller of Examinations Sanyam Bhardwaj. CBSE will conduct class 10 board examinations twice a year. The first phase will be held in February and the second phase will be in May.

Compulsory to appear in the first phase
Class 10 students must appear in the first phase of the board exam, the second phase will be optional. Internal assessment will be done only once.

After this decision, students will get a chance to improve their marks. If a student's marks are low in the first phase, he will be able to improve by performing well in the second phase.

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has approved the norms to conduct board examinations twice a year for class 10th, a move recommended in the new National Education Policy (NEP).

CBSE exam controller Sanyam Bhardwaj said, "The first phase will be held in February and the second in May. The results of both phases will be declared in April and June respectively. It will be compulsory for students to appear in the first phase while the second phase will be optional. Students will be allowed to improve their performance in any three subjects from science, mathematics, social sciences and languages."

As per the approved norms, class 10 students of schools participating in the winter session will get the option to appear for the board exams in any phase. Internal assessment will be done only once during the academic session.

The CBSE had announced the draft norms in February. It was later put in the public domain for stakeholders' feedback. The decision is in line with the recommendations of the new education policy, according to which to eliminate the "high-stakes" aspect of board exams, all students will be allowed to appear for the exams on two occasions during any school year.
