New Delhi: India’s T20 captain Suryakumar Yadav said that he is on the path of recovering after undergoing hernia surgery in the lower right part of his stomach in Munich, Germany. After playing in the IPL 2025 and the Mumbai T20 League, Suryakumar was in Europe with his wife Devisha before going to Munich for hernia operation.

Suryakumar wrote on his Instagram account, “Life update: Sports hernia surgery in the lower right side of the stomach. It is a pleasure to say that after an easy surgery, I am already on the path of recovering. I am eagerly waiting for coming back.”

This is the second time Suryakumar underwent sports hernia surgery – on January 17, 2024, he was operated on for a similar hernia problem in his waist in Munich. It took place shortly after undergoing surgery for an ankle injury during India’s tour of South Africa in December 2023.

Suryakumar last played in the five-match T20 series against England for India, which was won by the hosts by a margin of 4–1 earlier this year. The 34 -year -old right -handed batsman scored 717 runs in 16 innings for Mumbai Indians in the IPL this year and became the second highest run player in IPL 2025.

Although Mumbai Indians could not win IPL 2025, Suryakumar was chosen as the most valuable player (MVP) of the season to score the most runs by a non-opening batsman in a version of IPL. A few weeks later, Suryakumar will start its recovery and rehab program at the BCCI Center for Excellence (COE) in Bengaluru.

It remains to be seen whether Suryakumar is able to recover on time for the three T20 matches against Bangladesh in late August and whether the match is able to get fitness. The Indian team also has to play three ODIs in Bangladesh the same month, this is a format in which Suryakumar has not played any match against Australia in Ahmedabad since the 2023 ODI World Cup final since the final.
