Security forces have apprehended three militants associated with various banned organizations in Manipur, as reported by police on Friday. A senior official disclosed that a female member of the banned People's Liberation Army was arrested on Thursday in the Haobam Marak area of Imphal West district.
The official indicated that she was allegedly involved in extortion activities, threatening officials and courier service operators in the Imphal region.
Additionally, an active member of the banned Kangleipak Communist Party (PWG) was also arrested on Thursday in Samuru, Imphal West district, for his involvement in extortion activities in the valley areas. A pistol was recovered from him.
Moreover, another member of the banned PREPAK (Pro) was taken into custody on Wednesday from his residence in Khurai Thangjam Leikai, Imphal East district. Authorities recovered a pistol and ammunition from his possession.
Since ethnic violence erupted two years ago, security forces have been conducting search operations in Manipur. The ethnic clashes in May 2023 resulted in over 260 fatalities and left thousands displaced.
Following the resignation of Chief Minister N. Biren Singh, the central government imposed President's Rule in Manipur on February 13, suspending the state assembly, which was set to serve until 2027.
