Kate Garraway found herself in hot water on Friday as she made a major mistake while presenting Good Morning Britain, alongside her co-star Robert Rinder. The 58-year-old ITV star was hit with demands from fans telling her that she should "apologise" after a "rude" slip of the tongue.

One of the stories of the day was that Sir Keir Starmer's government is rebelling against him over controversial reforms. Now, after 120 MPs threatened to vote against him, the Prime Minister has rowed back on plans to cut disability benefits, saying those who are currently receiving them will get to keep them indefinitely. To report on the matters, the show cut over to Gargy Patel, who was live in Westminster - but Kate accidentally called her by the wrong name, referring to her as "Ranvir". As the reporter wrapped up her report, Kate thanked her saying: "Ranvir, thank you very much indeed." While the mistake seemed to go unnoticed by those in the ITV studio, fans at home picked up on the error and shared their complaints online.

One fumed on X/Twitter: "Kate called her 'Ranvir' hmm she was not impressed. Apologise." Another thought it might have been meant, asking: "@GMB did Kate just call that reporter Ranvir on a purpose... Was she being rude?????"

Someone else wrote: "Oops! Kate just called Gargy Patel, Ranvir by mistake," followed by a sad face emoji. Meanwhile, another used an eye-roll emoji while posting: "Did Kate just call that Asian journalist Ranvir?"

Express.co.uk have contacted ITV's Good Morning Britain for comment.

It's not the first time that Kate has upset viewers at home. Earlier this month, the host was criticised for her reaction while reporting on the death of a British woman from rabies.

The mum who died after being scratched by a stray puppy while on a holiday in Morocco was named as Yvonne Ford, from Barnsley, South Yorkshire. She unknowingly contracted rabies in February before falling ill earlier this month.

Kate discussed the case and at one point joked she was "doing her Doctor Hilary" referring to the show's resident medic. However her attempt at humour fell flat with viewers.

One wrote on X: "@GMB Did Kate Garraway just make an attempted joke about rabies after talking about the sad death of the lady from Barnsley."

"Classy Kate cracking a rabies joke just after reporting on a rabies death. #gmb," another observed. Meanwhile, a third asked: "@GMB Is this a new trend for your presenters to be disrespectful to people that have just died? Lorraine Kelly about Kim Woodburn yesterday, then Kate Garaway this morning, just before 7, about the poor lady that's just died after contracting rabies!"
