Veteran Bollywood actress Divya Dutta recently opened up about a terrifying episode from her childhood during the Punjab insurgency in the 1980s. In a heartfelt interview, she shared how her family received a kidnapping threat during that turbulent period, causing fear and panic at home.

Divya recounted that during the height of the insurgency, some opportunists took advantage of the chaos. She explained that while some were known locals, they misused the situation for personal gain.

“Someone sent a letter to our home threatening to kidnap me,” she revealed, recalling how the unsettling message was addressed to her mother.

The Strength of Small-Town Community Support

Highlighting the strength of small-town values, Divya spoke about how her local community came together to support her family. “In small towns, everyone knows everyone. My mother was a single parent, but no one let her feel alone,” she said.

She added that even in fear, the solidarity of the neighborhood provided a strong sense of protection and emotional strength.

Reflecting on the incident, Divya called the sender of the threat letter a “fraud.” Despite the fear it caused, the moment revealed the beauty of a united community. “Even when you’re technically alone, you’re not truly alone when you have such a neighborhood,” she said, adding that she still remembers the people who came forward to help them.
