Martin Brundle has already detailed what was "a bit scary" about his brief interview with David Beckham during one of his F1 grid walks. The Sky Sports commentator has been involved with Formula One for over 40 years as a racer and now a broadcaster and remains one of the most popular faces of the sport thanks to his memorable grid walks shortly before races.

While Brundle has enjoyed fruitful conversations with some of the world's biggest celebrities on the grid throughout the years, there are some who've opted to either blank the 66-year-old or make for a less-than-entertaining interviewee. One of the culprits of the latter was, in fact, the Manchester United legend whom Brundle caught up with in 2022 at the Miami Grand Prix.

As the co-owner of MLS side Inter Miami, Beckham was on home turf at the Grand Prix and once Brundle spotted him, he was on the chase to catch a quick word with the footballing icon. His brief chat with the former England captain about what he made of F1's presence in the Sunshine State came after a 'scary' incident when Beckham was at the Qatar GP in 2021, which ultimately meant Brundle was unable to speak to him.

"I was in Qatar trying to speak to David Beckham and there were two guys man-marking me," Brundle said, recalling the incident toSPORTbible. "Wherever I went, they were just looking at me! They did not want me to talk to David Beckham on that grid; the World Cup was coming up, wasn't it?

"That was a little bit scary because they were literally on the grid to stop me. So, I went round the back of [Lewis] Hamilton's car, and they went round the front and kind of just looked at me. That was a little bit odd."

In another interview he gave after the grid walk, Brundle spoke to GQ Magazine and was particularly damning about his short exchange with Beckham. He insisted that, among all the fanfare on the grid walk with the countless celebrity guests, it remains his territory.

"I was pretty determined to speak to him," he said of Beckham. "And then when I did [in Miami], I thought, 'I don't know why I bothered', basically. I didn't feel good about it, particularly. I don't like bothering people. If they don't want to talk to you, they don't want to talk to you.

"There are plenty of people who do. You've got to remember I've been on a Formula 1 grid for 38 years, well over half the life of Formula 1. I've been to well over half of the grands prix in the history of Formula 1, so I feel pretty comfortable in that space - I feel it's my territory."
