Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts experienced moderate rainfall on Friday, with brief intervals of relief during the day followed by heavier showers in the evening.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), an ‘orange alert’ has been issued for coastal Karnataka for June 28 and 29, warning of the possibility of intense rainfall accompanied by strong winds in the region.

In the 24-hour period ending Friday morning, five houses in Dakshina Kannada suffered partial damage, while 101 electric poles and one transformer were also reported damaged due to the inclement weather.

However, water levels in the region’s rivers, which had risen on Thursday, showed a notable decline by Friday. All rivers are currently flowing below the danger mark, easing earlier flood concerns.

Despite the orange alert in place for Friday, Udupi district received only scattered rainfall. The city of Udupi and nearby regions witnessed light to moderate showers, with overcast skies dominating the day.

Areas like Byndoor and Kundapura reported lesser rainfall, while Karkala, Kaup, Brahmavar, and Hebri experienced intermittent rain from morning until night, under a persistently cloudy atmosphere.

Authorities remain on alert, and residents have been advised to stay updated with the latest weather bulletins, as heavier showers are anticipated over the weekend.
