Political Clash Over Voter List in Bihar

In response to remarks made by RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, Bihar's Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha criticized the RJD's mindset, labeling it as anti-constitutional. He accused the party of attempting to undermine constitutional institutions and create confusion against them. Sinha claimed that the RJD-Congress alliance is following in the footsteps of West Bengal, where the influence of Mamata Banerjee is evident. He further asserted that the rhetoric has shifted from Indian to a language reminiscent of Bangladesh.

The BJP leader questioned the unease among certain individuals when the Election Commission of India aims for complete transparency in voter verification to ensure 100% voter turnout. He remarked that those operating under a 'jungle raj' are failing to fulfill their duties, aware that they may not return to power in the next election. He described such individuals as anti-constitutional, enemies of democracy, and willing to resort to any means to promote dynastic politics.

The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of the electoral rolls in Bihar, indicating that a new voter list will be compiled. This announcement has intensified political debates. Tejashwi Yadav has raised concerns regarding the ECI's decision, suggesting that it disregards the existing voter list of 8 crore Bihar residents in favor of creating a new one.

Yadav questioned the timing of this announcement, asking why it is happening just two months before the elections. He expressed skepticism about the feasibility of compiling a voter list for 8 crore people within 25 days, noting that the required documents may be inaccessible to the poor. He stated that a delegation would approach the Election Commission regarding this issue, alleging that Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Prime Minister Modi are fearful and wish to exclude the poor from the voter list, effectively stripping them of their voting rights.
