New Delhi: Indian wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant is close to joining the elite list of Sir Don Bradman Rahul Dravid Brian Lara Charles George Warren Bardsley and Daryl Mitchell. Pant scored centuries in both innings of the Leeds Test and became the second wicketkeeper-batsman to score centuries in both innings of the same Test. This was also Pants second Test century in England. Earlier he had scored 146 runs in 2022.
When is the 2nd Test match?
The second test match between India and England is to be held from July 2 at Edgbaston in Birmingham. If Pant is successful in scoring a century in this match as well he will become the seventh batsman of the visiting team to score three consecutive centuries in England. Only Rahul Dravid has done this for India. He scored three consecutive centuries in England in 2002. Daryl Mitchell did this in 2022 and since then no batsman has been able to score three consecutive centuries in England.
Rishabh Pants record in England
Pant has a good record in England and has scored 808 runs in 19 innings at an average of 42.52 which includes four centuries and two half-centuries. He played important partnerships in both innings of the Leeds Test match. Pant first had a partnership with captain Shubman Gill and then with KL Rahul. He added 209 runs with Gill for the fourth wicket in the first innings and scored 134 runs in 178 balls with the help of 12 fours and six sixes.
Rishabh Pant leaves MS Dhoni behind
During his innings Rishabh Pant became the wicketkeeper-batsman to score the most Test centuries and left Mahendra Singh behind in this matter. In the second innings Pant shared a 195-run partnership with KL Rahul for the fourth wicket and scored 118 runs in 140 balls with the help of 15 fours and three sixes. However despite Pants brilliant innings India could not win the first Test match and lost by five wickets. The Indian team is currently trailing 0-1 in the five-match series.
