New Delhi: The highly anticipated mythological film was released in theatres on June 27 and has received good reviews from fans. The three-hour-long movie didn’t earn a great amount on its first day despite the star-studded cast.
The film earned a decent amount, but not what was expected from the film. Kajol’s Maa‘s also released on the same day and can be one of the reasons why the film didn’t get the expected attention and earnings. Although the mythological drama’s compelling storyline and strong visuals have been praised by the audience.
The movie was released on Friday, and it collected Rs 9 crore on its first day 1, as reported by the industry tracker Sacknilk. It also has an overall 16.45% Tamil Occupancy, while the morning Shows saw an opening of 11.52%. The afternoon Shows recorded 20.60% and the evening shows 11.00%, whereas the night shows recorded 22.68%.
Kannappa, helmed by Mukesh Kumar Singh, is penned by Vishnu and produced by Mohan Babu. The film draws inspiration from the tale of Kannappa in Hinduism, a devoted follower of Lord Shiva. It features a cast that includes Mohanlal, Preity Mukhundhan, Kajal Aggarwal, Mohan Babu, R Sarathkumar, Arpit Ranka, Brahmanandam, Brahmaji, Siva Balaji, Kaushal Manda, and Rahul Madhav, among others.
The story of Kannappa, is about a passionate follower of Lord Shiva who dedicated his eyes to the Lord in an act of devotion, is well-known among many South Indians. Thinnadu (Vishnu Manchu) is a fierce fighter who perceives no sacredness in idols – just stone. A determined non-believer, he rejects rituals and mocks the traditions of his tribe. Meanwhile, in the heavenly domain of Kailasa, Lord Shiva (Akshay Kumar) and Goddess Parvati observe Thinnadu’s actions closely. Shiva, having predicted Thinnadu’s fate, understands that this sceptic is destined to become one of his most dedicated followers.
