Bangladesh cricket team Test captain Najmul Hasan Shanto has resigned from the Test captaincy after a 2 -match series against Sri Lanka. Bangladesh played the first Test draw of this series and lost in the second by an innings and 78 runs.

Talking to the media on Saturday, 26 -year -old Shantio said, “I will no longer captain the Test. This is not my personal decision, but a decision taken keeping in mind the future of the team. I do not want people to take it emotionally or consider it as despair. It is completely for the good of the team.”

Constant change in captaincy
Significantly, on June 12, the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) had also snatched the captaincy of the ODI team from Shantio and Mehdi Hasan Miraj was replaced as the new captain. At the same time, the captaincy of the T20 team is already with Litton Das.

Capital record of peace
In November 2023, he was appointed captain in the absence of Shakib Al Hasan.

BCB made him permanent captain of the three formats for the next 12 months.

Shanto captained a total of 14 Tests, in which

4 wins,

9 defeats,

And 1 match was drawn (against Sri Lanka).

In August 2024, he defeated Pakistan 2–0 on the same land, which was his major achievement.

Speculation of internal resentment
According to some media reports, Shantio was angry with the ODI captaincy. Earlier this year, he also separated himself from the captaincy of T20. He had said about the ODI format, “It asks for long -term planning,” and on the same day he had a meeting with BCB directors, in which the captaincy was changed.

Next Test in October
Bangladesh now has to play a Test series against Ireland in October. In such a situation, BCB has a lot of time to choose a new captain.
