New Delhi: The Indian cricket team is currently on a tour of England for a five-match Test series under the 2025-2027 World Test Championship. The first match of this series was played at Headingley in which India lost by five wickets. In the first Test India batted well in the first innings but the bowling and fielding were truggling in the second innings allowing England to successfully achieve the target. Bumrahs form and workload a matter of concern Jasprit Bumrah bowled brilliantly in the first innings and took five wickets but he could not take any wicket in the second innings. Concerns have emerged about his fitness and workload. According to reports he may possibly play only three of the five Tests. The team has spinners like Ravindra Jadeja Kuldeep Yadav and Washington Sundar while the pace attack includes Mohammed Siraj Prasidh Krishna and others. However the absence of Virat Kohli and the release of Harshit Rana after the first Test pose challenges regarding team combination. On 28 June 2025 Punjab Kings spin all-rounder Harpreet Brar was seen bowling to Indian batsmen in the nets. He is not a part of Team Indias official Test team nor did he wear the Indian kit. This means that he was specially invited as a net bowler or for practice. This information was shared by an Indian journalist Sandipan Banerjee who is in England. Will Brar play the second Test? Harpreet Brars presence has led to speculation that he could be included in the team in place of Ravindra Jadeja. Jadeja is also a left-arm spin all-rounder and reports suggested that coach Gautam Gambhir could drop him for the next match. However there has been no official confirmation on this. Is Team India preparing for a strategic change? Given Brars bowling style and the potential spin-friendly pitch at Edgbaston some experts believe that the team could try options like Brar. However this possibility is extremely low as Brar has been called only as a net bowler and his main objective is to prepare the batsmen to play spin.
