Bangladesh Test Captain: The Bangladeshi team has been fierce after a 1-0 defeat in the Test series against Sri Lanka. Captain Najmul Hussain Shanto has given up the captaincy of the Bangladesh Test team. Bangladesh-Sri Lanka was the first Test draw of the series, while in the second Test, Bangladesh suffered defeat by a big margin of an innings and 78 runs. In the post match presentation after the conclusion of the second match, Najmul Shanto said that he is leaving the captaincy for the betterment of the team.
In the second match, Najmul Shanto was able to score only 27 runs, including both innings. Announcing his decision to quit the captaincy, he said, “I have decided to leave the captaincy for the betterment of the team, I think it will be good for the team. I am part of the team for the last few years and I have three different captains in three formats according to me.”
Najmul Shanto further said, “I don’t know what the board will think about this and I will respect the board’s decision, but this is my personal decision. I think it is not a good thing for the team to be three different captains. I do not want anyone to think that I have taken this decision on emotional basis. I want to make this decision only for the team’s better.”
Najmul Shanto captained the Bangladesh Test team for the first time in the series against New Zealand in November 2023. He led the Bangladesh Test team in a total of 14 Tests, out of which his team won 4, but the team lost in 9 matches. As captain, Shanto scored in Test matches at an average of 36.24.
