New Delhi: Captained by Rohit Sharma India ended an 11-year spell without an ICC title as they won the 2024 T20 World Cup. The Men in Blue narrowly beat South Africa in a cracking final played in Barbados on June 29. To finish it Hardik Pandya bowled a superb final and a spectacular catch by Suryakumar Yadav to get rid of David Miller was practically the final blow that denied South Africa their first ICC title. It was Indias first ICC triumph since the 2013 Champions Trophy. Big reveal by Rohit Sharma On the first anniversary of India winning the T20 World Cup Rohit Sharma made a massive bombshell on the former head coach Rahul Dravid in that he had planned to leave his job post the 2023 ODI World Cup. India suffered defeat against Australia in the final. Rahul bhai wanted to step down after the 2023 World Cup. But we said Theres another World Cup in six months. Weve come this far. Lets give it one more shot. He agreed-and Im so glad he did. Im sure even now he feels that he made the right decision said Rohit Sharma to JioHotstar. For me personally it was also emotional. My identity as a cricketer began with this format-in the 2007 T20 World Cup. To come full circle and lift the trophy again in 2024-it was just fantastic he added. Success for Rahul Dravid in coaching arena During Rahul Dravids tenure India was defeated horribly against England in the T20 World Cup 2022 semi-final. The following year they reached the finals of the 2023 ODI World Cup where they lost against Australia. However Dravid ended up tasting some success in 2024 with him winning the first major trophy as a coach with India in the 2024 T20 World Cup. This triumph gave Rahul Dravid a breakthrough as a coach who had this job since the 2021 T20 World Cup. Following the win Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli announced their retirement in T20I. Still the two continued to represent India in Test cricket until the 2024/25 Border-Gavaskar trophy.
