New Delhi: The monsoon made an entry into Delhi on June 29, said the India Meteorologicalā Department (IMD). In fact the monsoon is now active across the country. Both the hilly areas in the country and the plains are receiving heavy rainfall. While Delhi has been receiving rains since Saturday morning, the weather department has issued a rainfall alert for the city for the next 2 days.
The maximum and minimum temperatures fell considerably across Delhi-NCR following the heavy rains in the city. The maximum temperature of Delhi is expected to be around 33 degrees Celsius on Monday, while the minimum temperature will hover around 27 degrees Celsius.
Monsoon reached Delhi-NCR in June itself for the fourth year in a row. Earlier the IMD had predicted that the monsoon would reach the city by July 8, but it hit the city 9 days in advance. Following moderate rains in the region, the weather has turned pleasant.
While Delhi witnessed rains over the weekend, the IMD has also issued warnings of very heavy rainfall in other parts of the country. On Monday, June 30, heavy rains are expected to hit several parts of Odisha and Jharkhand.
Apart from these 2 states, heavy rains are expected in various parts of Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh. In the next 2 days, the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim will receive rains, said the weather department in its latest prediction.
The IMD has issued a red alert for 4 districts of Himachal Pradesh. The state is expected to receive heavy rainfall on Monday. The alert has been issued for Kangra, Mandi, Solan and Sirmaur districts of the state. The weather department warned of “heavy to very heavy rains in a few places in these districts.”
Rainfall is also expected at isolated places in Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur and Shimla, they said. Apart from these districts, heavy rains are expected in isolated pockets of Kullu andChamba districts.
In both Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand, heavy rains are expected to continue till July 5. Uttarakhand witnessed a cloudburst on Sunday, triggering panic and chaos in the region.
Apart from the hilly regions, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana and Punjab are also expected to see rainfall activity till July 5.
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected for the next 7 days at isolated places over Konkan, Goa, Madhya Maharashtra and Gujarat, said the IMD. Between July 2 to July 5, northeastern states of Arunachal Pradesh, Assam Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram and Tripura will see rains in different places. On July 3-4, Kerala and Karnataka’s Mahe will witness rains.
The monsoon has become active in the entire country, leading to heavy rains in all of India, said the weather department.
