Mumbai: The holy month of Sawan (Shravan), beloved to Lord Shiva, is set to begin on 11 July 2025. According to the lunar calendar, Sawan begins either from the full moon (Purnima) in the Purnimant tradition or from the new moon (Amavasya) in the Amanta tradition. Regardless of the method followed, Mondays (Somwar) during this month are considered deeply sacred. The first Somwar Vrat (Monday fast) of Sawan will fall on 14 July 2025.

Sawan is wholly dedicated to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, and each Monday is believed to bless devotees with spiritual strength, marital harmony, and protection from suffering. This year, the first Sawan Somwar is aligning with two powerful astrological combinations (Shubh Yogas), making the day exceptionally auspicious for Shiva puja, Rudrabhishek, and other spiritual practices. Here’s what to expect on this spiritually charged day.

Auspicious Yogas on First Sawan Somwar (14 July 2025)

This year, the first Monday of Sawan will witness a rare and beneficial alignment of Dhanishta Nakshatra and Ayushman Yoga. The Moon will also be transiting through Aquarius (Kumbh Rashi), further enhancing the potency of Shiva worship and Rudrabhishek rituals on this day.

Ayushman Yoga is known to bestow health, strength, and longevity. Performing Shiva puja under this yoga is said to bring relief from chronic ailments, enhance one’s fortune, and increase inner strength and determination. It is particularly effective for boosting self-confidence and spiritual resilience.

What to Do on Sawan’s First Monday

  • Devotees observing fast or performing puja on this sacred day are advised to follow these rituals:
  • Offer Bilva (Bel) leaves to Lord Shiva for spiritual cleansing.
  • Perform Rudrabhishek with Gangajal (holy Ganges water) for divine blessings.
  • Chant the Mahamrityunjaya Mantra to ward off fear, illness, and untimely death.
  • For sweeter relationships and harmony in married life, anoint the Shivling with milk, honey, and ghee.
  • Chant “Om Namah Shivaya” throughout the day to align with divine energy.
