The Bengaluru Police have arrested a man from Assam who allegedly killed her live-in partner, whose body, stuffed inside a bag with her legs tied to her neck, was found dumped in a garbage truck in the metropolis on Sunday.

The body was found in the rear lift of the Bengaluru Municipal Corporation’s garbage truck near Channammanakere Skating Ground under the Chennammanakere Achukattu Police Station limits, news agency PTI reported.

The accused, identified as Shamsuddin, was apprehended within 20 hours of the crime.

As per the police, the victim, identified as Asha, and Shamsuddin had been in a live-in relationship for two years, having met while working at an urban company.

As per the preliminary investigation, the frequent quarrels between the couple, often fueled by Asha’s alleged alcohol consumption and late-night phone calls, escalated into the fatal dispute. The accused reportedly strangled Asha during one such argument.

The police said that based on the CCTV footage, the body was tied up and stuffed into a sack and was likely dumped in the garbage truck sometime between Saturday night and early Sunday.

As per the police, Asha was a widow with two children, while Shamsuddin was married with two children and was residing in Assam. He had been living with Asha in Hulimavu in Bengaluru. After the murder, Shamsuddin allegedly transported Asha’s body on his bike before abandoning it in a garbage truck and fleeing the scene.

A resident, who came to dispose of garbage, grew suspicious on noticing the sack and alerted the police in the early hours of Sunday. Police personnel rushed to the spot and recovered the body.

A murder case was registered, and an investigation was initiated to identify those involved and ascertain the motive.
