Dan Evans and Jay Clarke will meet on Tuesday for a prize worth more than the £99,000 for reaching the second round - a date with Novak Djokovic. "I know who the winner will play - about 9,000 people have messaged me," said British No.5 Evans.

"Do you think we don't have phones? It's a bit like when a boxer's got a big fight in front of them and he can't overlook it. Jay Clarke will be looking at it and I'll be looking at it. There's a nice match in the second round on a very big court. I want to win that match not just to play Novak but to get a crack at him. It's a great incentive.

"I'm really looking forward first to Tuesday but to get a chance to walk out probably on Centre Court against a guy who's hardly lost here. I've done it against Roger Federer (in 2016), I think it would be a good little prize at the end of a good grass-court season - doesn't mean it's the end of the grass-court season."

Before the all-male Battle of Britain, British No.6 Clarke said: "I think a few years ago Jack Draper was outside the top 100 and maybe got a wild card and ew drew Novak and I got the chance to play Federer a few years ago, along with Marcus Willis playing Federer.

"There's a lot of amazing things that wild cards give British players besides money, but of course, we need the money to be able to keep going."

All players are guaranteed to bank £66,000 even if they lose in the first round.

Draper himself could meet Djokovic, Evans or Clarke in the quarter-finals of Wimbledon. But he already admitted that he is not looking too far ahead in the future.

"I look at my first round, who I have," said Draper. "I haven't looked at that at all. I respect every person in the draw. I've got (Sebastian) Baez on Tuesday, and I'm not looking further than that. We'll start with that one.

"I feel like personally I've grown a lot again since last year. I think I have a lot more belief in myself physically, also as a tennis player, mentally. I feel like I'm very different in all areas.

"Obviously I still feel I can improve so, so much. I'm nowhere near hopefully where I want to get to as a player. But I'm happy to come here one year later with the amount of progress that I've made. I'm very proud of that."
