New Delhi. If you have not been able to make a PAN card yet, then there is nothing to worry about now. The Income Tax Department has made the process of e-Pan service even more simple and fast. Now you can make your PAN card sitting at home in just 10 minutes-that too for free (for e-pans). However, if you want to get a physical card, then you will have to pay a fee of Rs 107 and the card will reach your address in 15 to 30 days by post.

Aadhaar compulsory from 1 July 2025

The government has made a big change in the PAN card rules. According to the new rules, Aadhaar card will be mandatory on applying for PAN card from 1 July 2025. That is, if you do not have Aadhaar, then you will not be able to make a new PAN card. The government believes that this step will play an important role in stopping tax evasion.

Alert for old PAN card holders

Those who already have a PAN card will also have to do the necessary work. The government has clarified that it is mandatory to link all PAN cards to Aadhaar by 31 December 2025. If this is not done, the PAN card will be inactive from 1 January 2026. This means that you will not be able to file tax returns and financial activities may also be interrupted.

Why is PAN card necessary?

The PAN card is an alphanumeric identity number of a 10 digit which is issued by the Income Tax Department. This is mandatory for many important tasks such as: filing income tax returns, opening bank account, cash transactions worth more than Rs 2 lakh, investment in stock market, property purchase and sale etc.

How to get e-Pain made in 10 minutes?

Step-by-step guide:

1.Go to the official website of income tax.

2.Click on ‘Instant E-Pan’ service and select the option ‘Get New e-Pan’.

3.Enter your Aadhaar number (make sure that the mobile number is linked to Aadhaar).

4.Enter OTP sent to the registered mobile number and verify.

5.Information to Aadhaar (name, date of birth etc.) will automatically fill.

6.Verify the details and click on the ‘Submit’ button.

7.Your e-Pan will be generated in a few minutes.

8.PAN number and other information will be received through SMS and email.

9.E-PAN card can be downloaded in PDF format from the link available on the website.
