Cristiano Ronaldo, aged 40, will remain one of the highest-paid sports stars on the planet if reports about his new two-year deal with Al-Nassr are to be trusted. The Portugal captain, who was rumoured to leave the Saudi Pro League (RSL) side ahead of the Club World Cup, will stay in Riyadh and will earn over a million pounds every couple of days.

The contract extension with Al-Nassr witnessed the former Manchester United star taking a signing-on fee of £24.5 million ($33.7 million), media reports said. The amount will be increased to £38 million ($48.00 million) upon successfully reaching the second year of the lucrative deal, the reports added.

The contract also includes a £4 million bonus if he manages to claim the Golden Boot once again, while Al-Nassr winning the Saudi league title could ensure the five-time Ballon d’Or winner another £8 million, Goal.com said, quoting an English media outlet.

To put plainly, Cristiano Ronaldo will be earning an astonishing £178 million ($224.28 million) per year in wages as the Al-Nassr skipper — which is approximately £488,000 ($615,000) per day. Over the course of his contract, the forward is set to earn a total of £492 million ($619.92 million). If he claims the bonuses, his earnings could surpass half a billion pounds, the report pointed out.

It is said that CR7 is earning around $50 million off the field alone in the form of sponsorships, equity, and similar sources. Inter Miami’s Lionel Messi is reportedly earning $135 million annually. Basketball star Stephen Curry and boxing sensation Tyson Fury are the other highest-earning sportspersons, taking home $156 million ($56M salary + $100M endorsements) and $146 million ($140M fight purses + $6M endorsements), respectively.
