Introduction

Today, July 1st, marks the 84th birthday of Kalraj Mishra, a prominent leader of the Bharatiya Janata Party and former Governor of Rajasthan. Before serving in Rajasthan, he held the gubernatorial position in Himachal Pradesh. After joining the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), he became a full-time propagator for the organization. Let's explore some intriguing aspects of Kalraj Mishra's life as we celebrate his birthday.

Early Life

Kalraj Mishra was born on July 1, 1941, in Malikpur, Ghazipur. He initially became associated with the RSS and later served as the first national president of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha.

Political Career

Kalraj Mishra played a significant role in the Ayodhya movement against the Babri Masjid. At that time, he was the state president and a legislator. In the lead-up to the 1991 assembly elections, many activists lost their lives during the movement. Despite the turmoil, Kalraj Mishra confidently asserted that the BJP would secure a majority and form the government.

Following this, the BJP did indeed form a government, leading to Kalyan Singh becoming the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh in 1991, just a year before the controversial Babri structure was demolished. Kalraj Mishra was one of the few who consistently claimed he would lead the government, and he fulfilled that promise. However, he did not receive the recognition he deserved for his contributions to the party's success.

After being removed from the central cabinet, Kalraj Mishra had to wait a considerable time before becoming a governor. Nevertheless, he is recognized as a political visionary. During the Modi administration, he held the Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises, where he initiated several plans aimed at economic reform in Purvanchal, significantly contributing to the region's economic transformation.

Kalraj Mishra maintained a close relationship with Atal Bihari Vajpayee and was seen as the Brahmin face of the BJP in Uttar Pradesh. However, the government seemed to consider him late in his career. When he was appointed as the Governor of Rajasthan, it felt like justice was served for this veteran leader, who has had a long and unblemished political career.
