Jurassic World Rebirth: Here's the Box Office Revenue Scarlett Johansson and Jonathan Bailey's Film Needs to Thrive
Three decades after the release of Steven Spielberg’s Jurassic Park, Universal Pictures is gearing up this summer for the release of Jurassic World: Rebirth on July 4. This new chapter in the iconic dinosaur saga aims to reset the franchise following the mixed reception of the previous trilogy. The film features a new director, Gareth Edwards, and a fresh cast led by Scarlett Johansson, Jonathan Bailey, and Mahershala Ali. Expectations are soaring for the film, but what will it take for Jurassic World: Rebirth to be deemed a true box office success? At least $450 million globally.
This figure serves as the benchmark for a film reportedly made on a budget of $180 million, which also includes marketing and distribution costs. For those unfamiliar, studios typically require a film to earn 2.5 times its production budget to achieve profitability.
However, it is important to note that, according to reports, Jurassic World: Rebirth is actually more budget-conscious compared to its predecessors. The previous two films—Fallen Kingdom in 2018 and Dominion in 2022—each reportedly surpassed $500 million in total production and marketing costs. In contrast, Rebirth has opted for a relatively leaner financial approach. Universal seems to be adopting a smarter strategy—taking on less risk while still aiming for substantial rewards.

For those who may not know, Rebirth is set five years after the events of Jurassic World: Dominion, depicting a world where dinosaurs have largely retreated to tropical climates. Scarlett Johansson makes her debut in the dino-verse as Zora Bennett, who leads a high-stakes expedition to a remote island in search of some of the largest surviving dinosaurs. However, they arrive only to find that the dinosaurs have mutated into something far more terrifying. The film features a supporting cast that includes Rupert Friend, Ed Skrein, and Manuel Garcia-Rulfo, and aims to blend tense sci-fi storytelling with blockbuster spectacle (which diverges from the tone of the original films).
Box office projections for Rebirth are looking promising. Reports suggest that the film will benefit from the US Independence Day holiday, with major screenings starting on Wednesday, July 2. Industry experts estimate a five-day opening of $115–$135 million.
This could potentially increase for the latest installment in the franchise, especially with strong word of mouth and favorable reviews. Some projections even suggest a possible rise to the $145 million range if audience sentiment remains positive.
While this would still mark the lowest opening weekend for a Jurassic World film, Rebirth doesn’t need to reach the lofty heights of its predecessors to be financially viable, given its modest budget.

For those unfamiliar, the first Jurassic World (2015) had a record-breaking $208 million domestic debut, while Fallen Kingdom opened to $148 million and Dominion earned around $145 million. Those films needed to achieve astronomical global grosses just to break even. In contrast, Rebirth is designed to succeed with more attainable targets.
With no returning legacy characters and a self-contained storyline, Rebirth functions more as a soft reboot than a sequel. Positioned as the start of a new era, this could work in its favor, allowing new audiences to engage with the film without requiring extensive franchise knowledge.

If Jurassic World Rebirth can surpass the $450 million global threshold, there is potential for it to become a financial success and a blockbuster comeback story for a franchise that has been weighed down by a lack of creative innovation.
However, the competition is fierce. Jurassic World: Rebirth will be vying for screens against summer heavyweights like Marvel’s Fantastic Four: First Steps and James Gunn’s Superman, the inaugural film of the new DC Universe. Whether Rebirth can still exceed expectations with strong box office performance, international appeal, and an existing fan base remains to be seen.
