State-Wide Protests Erupt

Guwahati, June 1: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) organized protests throughout Assam on Tuesday in reaction to the incident where bottles were thrown at Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma's convoy in Golaghat the previous day.

Demonstrations took place in various districts, with prominent party figures and ministers denouncing the attack and alleging that the Congress party was behind it.

In Sribhumi, local residents, along with BJP activists and leaders, obstructed the National Highway as a form of protest.

Public Works (Roads) Minister Krishnendu Paul condemned the act, labeling it as part of a broader conspiracy.

He stated, "The Congress aims to turn Assam into another Kashmir, but the people of Assam will resist this."

Paul also hinted at possible foreign involvement, asserting, "There has always been a connection between Congress and foreign elements, and we suspect they are behind this incident. Such occurrences are unprecedented in our state."

In Dhubri, Tourism Minister Ranjeet Kumar Dass called for a public apology from the Congress, specifically addressing Assam Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Gaurav Gogoi.

"The Chief Minister is elected by the people. This attack is not just on Himanta Biswa Sarma but on the democratic choice of the people. The Congress owes an apology to the citizens of Assam," Dass remarked.

He further noted that the residents of Dhubri, regardless of their linguistic or religious backgrounds, have decided to prevent Gaurav Gogoi from entering the district until an apology is made.

In Biswanath, members of the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) conducted a protest march from the Clock Tower in Biswa Nath Chariali to the local police station.

The demonstration included senior party leaders such as MLA Diganta Ghatowal and District BJP President Asim Das, who chanted slogans against the Congress and demanded accountability.

The protest movement also reached Dima Hasao, where BJYM members in Haflong organized a sit-in at the party office to denounce the incident. The youth wing called for stringent action against those responsible.

These protests follow the arrest of six individuals linked to the bottle-throwing incident, including Congress workers, escalating the political conflict between the BJP and Congress.

While the Chief Minister dismissed the incident with sarcasm, referring to it as the Congress's "efforts," BJP leaders statewide have taken a more serious stance, framing it as an assault on democratic principles and public order.
