Halifax, Natwest, and Lloyds are set to close 82 branches starting from today as part of efforts to scale back their network of physical locations. The move comes as a major blow to the UK's dilapidated high street, which has been witnessing many closures over the last few years.

Lloyds will close two branches today across Norfolk and Cornwall. Branches in Fakenham and Wadebridge are set to close today, July 1, as part of a wave of shutdowns announced earlier this year. Last month, the reduction of the bank's physical footprint led to 16 high street closures, and a further 23 branches are expected to shut by the end of 2025. The major lender serves millions of customers nationwide.

Halifax, a subsidiary of the Lloyds Banking Group, is set to close 25 branches by year's end. Its high street branch in Pontypridd, Wales, will shut its doors on July 15. This follows the closure of 15 locations in June, with another 24 branches scheduled to close throughout September, October, and November, reports The Sun.
