Managing Arsenal - Eze transfer completed, Sesko signs, Rodrygo deal, Gyokeres move

Arsenal need to sanction some huge transfers ahead of the 2025/26 season in their pursuit of silverware. The Gunners opted to raise the floor of their squad last summer with a lack of depth and key injuries costing them dearly.

Mikel Merino and Riccardo Calafiori arrived permanently, while Raheem Sterling and Neto also joined on loan. To replace the latter, Kepa Arrizabalaga has officially joined from Chelsea as competition for David Raya.

Further new signing announcements are expected imminently with deals for midfield duo Christian Norgaard and Martin Zubimendi agreed. Cristhian Mosquera is also, seemingly, expected to arrive in north London from Valencia with talks continuing and a second bid on the horizon after Arsenal's opening offer was turned down.

As a striker, wide forward and versatile attacker is wanted after those four deals, and funds are available as the new financial year has begun, football.london has gone through the list of targets and picked out three players the Gunners should be signing;

Gyokeres or Sesko?

Following a failed attempt to get Ollie Watkins on board in the January transfer window, Arsenal appear to have whittled down their striker shortlist to just Viktor Gyokeres and Benjamin Sesko.

Discussions for both have been held but it's the latter that is most likely to join especially after Sporting made their new asking price very clear. Gyokeres has the better goal-scoring record but the level of the league in which he has found success must be considered.

Sesko, meanwhile, is younger and, arguably, has a higher ceiling with his sell-on value clear as well if the switch does not work out. Arsenal will likely try and negotiate a lower price and if a compromise can be met at around £64.3 million (€75m), it's the deal worth pursuing.

Gyokeres staying at Sporting is hard to imagine and, therefore, a move to Manchester United and reunion with Ruben Amorim is likely once they have wrapped up the signing of Bryan Mbeumo.

Three wide forward options

With Nico Williams favouring a move to Barcelona, Arteta is down to three names for his wide forward signing. Real Madrid's Rodrygo is one of those and that will likely be the signing that most want but it will unsurprisingly cost a significant amount.

Even if the Brazil international makes it clear that he wants to leave, Los Blancos are unlikely to accept anything below at £77million (€90m).

Chelsea and England star, Noni Madueke, will almost certainly be cheaper while Rafael Leao of AC Milan could be anywhere between those two valuations. The three names that could join will all offer something different but it's Rodrygo's experience as a winner and in those big moments that sets him apart.

Eze decision and alternatives

For much of the summer, it looked as though just two attacking signings were being looked at, but Eberechi Eze looks to have changed that.

Following a transfer meeting this past weekend, he features near the top of Arsenal's shortlist, but their pursuit of the Crystal Palace star, who has a £68m release clause, will not impact planned deals for a striker and wide forward, as per The Athletic.

With it now clear that Arsenal are considering a versatile forward, too, there are some alternatives that could be pursued if a move for Eze does not work out.

Dutchmen Xavi Simons - capable of playing in midfield, directly behind the striker and out wide - could also be on the move. He will likely cost a similar amount as Eze even though RB Leipzig only took on his services permanently 18 months ago.

Atalanta's Ademola Lookman is another option Arteta will love with the former Everton and Fulham man able to play in basically every position across the front-line. Links to the Nigeria international ramped up in recent weeks but Eze should still be the favoured signing.

He has the Premier League experience and he's capable of taking on a big role with pressure - as seen by how he guided Palace to an FA Cup triumph.
