Kurukshetra: The embankment of the Markanda river broke in the evening in Nessi village of Kurukshetra district of Haryana, causing water to spread to many villages. The crops standing in the fields were submerged. Due to the breakdown of the embankment, the strong flow of the river turned towards the fields, causing crops to drown rapidly. The farmers immediately reached the spot and tried to tie the embankment again, but the water spread rapidly.
The villagers informed the administration at night, but the relief team did not reach the spot. There is a lot of resentment among the villagers and farmers on this. He says that in 2023 also last year, the embankment in Nessi was broken, but this time no preparation was made before the monsoon. Meanwhile, the crops were submerged due to the breaking of the embankment in Jalbehra village and the saint colony was flooded.
Villagers say that every time such a situation arises after rain, but permanent solution was not done. Nor did any officer come to inspect the condition of the Markanda river. Last year too, despite the breaking of the embankment, the administration did not take any concrete steps.
On Monday, the water of the Markanda river overflowed in Kathwa, Gumti, Kalsana, Malakpur, Mughal Majra and Tangor villages of Shahabad. Due to this, the water of the river reached the fields of these villages, which drowned about 1800 acres of crops.
