The Prime Minister Surya Ghar Free Power Scheme has taken a new step towards promoting clean energy in the country. Under this ambitious scheme, 14 villages in Rewari district of Haryana are on the way to become model solar villages in the field of solar energy. The goal of this initiative is not only to reduce electricity bills, but also make rural India aware and self -sufficient. Let’s know how this scheme is illuminating the villages as well as their future.
Solar energy is considered to be the cleanest and affordable energy source in today’s time. The aim of the PM Surya Ghar Yojana launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in February 2024 is to provide cheap and free electricity to every house. Under this scheme, the government is giving grants to eligible families to set up solar panels. In Rewari district, in collaboration with the Electricity Distribution Corporation, house-to-house solar plants are being installed, so that a normal family can bring their electricity bill to almost zero.
Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Rahul Modi said that this scheme is a revolutionary step to meet electricity needs in rural areas. Solar energy is not only illuminating homes, but is also proving effective in running tubewells and other equipment in the fields. It is also making a big contribution towards strengthening the rural economy and also towards environmental protection.
Under this scheme, a village from each district of the country will be selected as a model solar village. 14 villages from Rewari district have been selected for this competition, including Maheshwari, Dahina, Akheda, Gokalgarh, Nandrampur bus, Gurwara, Ghatal Mahaniawas, Rampura, Jainabad, Manethi, Siha, Bhakli, Kosali and Nahad. The winner will be selected based on the establishment and use of solar panels in this competition, which runs from 26 May to 26 November 2025 in these villages.
The village which will use solar energy the most and effective use will get a prize of Rs 1 crore. This award will not only help in the progression of the village, but will also inspire other villages in this direction. The purpose of this initiative is to encourage rural communities to adopt solar energy and make them self -sufficient.
One special aspect of this scheme is that it is also promoting social inclusion. The government is providing up to 75 percent grant to panchayats to set up solar power systems in Scheduled Castes (SC) and Backward Class (BC) chaupals. This step is an important effort to improve social facilities in rural areas and connect all classes with the benefits of solar energy.
Solar panels are not only meeting the power needs of homes, but are also proving useful in farming. Running devices such as tubewells with solar energy is reducing the cost of farmers and their income and (highlighted) are being increased. This scheme is opening a way for rural India, which is beneficial from both economic and environmental perspectives.
PM Surya Ghar Yojana is not limited to providing electricity only; This is an attempt to give rural India a new direction. 14 villages of Rewari can join this race and set an example for not only themselves but for the whole country. This scheme is not only helping to reduce electricity bills, but is also promoting environmental protection and rural development.
As these villages are stepping towards solar energy, it is expected that other villages will also be inspired by this initiative. The use of solar energy is not only financially beneficial, but it also lays a clean and green future foundation for the coming generations.
