Criticism of Modi's Global Engagement

As Prime Minister Narendra Modi embarks on a week-long journey to five nations, Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra has labeled him as a 'globetrotting' leader. She questioned the government's failure to diplomatically isolate Pakistan on the global stage.

In a video statement, Moitra remarked that Modi might be the first Prime Minister to undertake such extensive travels, funded by taxpayer money. She suggested that his efforts seem focused on firmly establishing India within the global framework and ensuring its prominent position.

Moitra raised critical questions, stating, 'How is it possible that despite your diplomatic outreach and India's numerous efforts, a leader from the free world openly expresses affection for a nation known as a hub for terrorism, dining with its army chief? The most troubling aspect is that India and Pakistan are now discussed in the same breath, which was unimaginable a decade ago.'

Her comments were a clear reference to a recent meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Pakistani Army Chief Asim Munir. She emphasized, 'Prime Minister, despite all your efforts and those of our Ministry of External Affairs, how have we failed to diplomatically isolate Pakistan?'

The MP further questioned why no country has openly condemned Pakistan following the Pahalgam attack, pointing out the lack of evidence linking Pakistan to the incident. 'Isn't this a failure of our intelligence?' she asked.

Moitra highlighted that multilateral organizations like the World Bank and IMF continue to provide billions in aid to Pakistan, stating, 'Either we have been completely ineffective in persuading them, or Pakistan has outperformed us in this regard.'

On Wednesday, Prime Minister Modi set off on a week-long trip to five countries, including Brazil, where he will participate in the BRICS summit.
