Olympics 2036: India has put forward its name for hosting the Olympics 2036, Ahmedabad has been chosen as host city. A high-level delegation of the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) visited the International Olympic Committee headquarters on 1 July 2025 in Lausane, Switzerland. The delegation was led by IOA president and veteran athlete PT Usha.
The Indian delegation expressed his desire to host 2036 Olympics in Ahmedabad at a meeting with IOC officials. Senior officials of the Union Sports Ministry were also present in the meeting. The IOC gave India detailed information about the necessary steps and procedures for hosting summer games. The IOA said in a press release, “The meeting was quite important, in which the possibilities of hosting Olympics in Ahmedabad were discussed.”
2028 will be held in Olympic Los Angeles and 2032 in Olympic Brisbane. So now India is eyeing 2036 Olympics. Apart from India, countries like Saudi Arabia, Indonesia, Türkiye and Chile are also in the race for 2036 Olympics and Paralympics. The IOC has recently made some changes in the host country selection process, due to which this race has become even more interesting.
After the meeting with the IOC, PT Usha said, “Olympic hosting on Indian soil will be not only a memorable event, but it will also have a profound impact on future generations.” Significantly, India had earlier written a letter to the IOC in October 2023 and expressed interest in hosting the 2036 Olympics.
Hosting Olympics in Ahmedabad will be a major achievement for India. If India gets the right to host, it will give an opportunity to increase the country’s sports talent and international reputation. Now everyone’s eyes are on the next decision of IOC.
