Lucknow. Swami Prasad Maurya, the national president and former minister of his Janata Party, took to the streets on Thursday against the decision to close more than 27,000 primary schools in Uttar Pradesh. The former minister was going to submit a memorandum to the Governor along with hundreds of supporters, but the police stopped him by putting a barricade near Darulshafa, due to which he started a sit -in on the road. During this time, party workers shouted slogans against the government.
Swami Prasad Maurya said, closing schools is a serious play with children’s education. We were going to meet the Governor and demanding that the government immediately withdraw the order to close the schools. But we were stopped on the way. This is a violation of democratic rights.
Also said that the children studying in schools which have merged the government will now have to go to school several kilometers away, which will affect the education of poor and rural children badly. He also said that the government is hiding the truth of shortage of millions of teachers, while this is the reason why the quality of education is falling.
