On day 2 of the second Test between India and England at Edgbaston, the Indian captain hit a historic double century, to which his fellow teammate Mohammed Siraj bowed down to him from the dressing room. Gill battled back pain from day 1 but stood poised and scored 269 runs before getting dismissed. It is not only his highest personal score but it broke multiple prestigious records, including one of his former Test teammate and captain, Virat Kohli.
However, on reaching his maiden double ton by getting a run, he took out his helmet and celebrated. The Edgbaston crowd, who booed him last day, gave him a standing ovation. The Indian dugout stood up. But Siraj's gesture caught the eyes. Gill's teammate from Gujarat Titans mimicked Gill's "bow down" celebration and bowed down to Gill, to which Gill replied with a light bow down too.

India keeps day 2 Edgbaston on their side
India seized complete control on Day 2 at Edgbaston, thanks to a historic double century from captain Shubman Gill, who scored 269 off 387 balls. The 24-year-old became the first Indian to score a Test double ton on English soil, surpassing Sunil Gavaskar’s 221. With 30 fours and 3 sixes, Gill registered the highest individual Test score by an Indian in England.
He is now the 6th Indian captain with a Test double hundred, joining MAK Pataudi, Sunil Gavaskar, Sachin Tendulkar, MS Dhoni, and Virat Kohli. This was also his second successive century as captain, underlining his composure under pressure after arriving at 24/2 on Day 1. He shared century stands with Ravindra Jadeja (89) and Washington Sundar (42).
India posted 587 in 151 overs, with England's Shoaib Bashir picked 3 wickets, while Chris Woakes and Josh Tongue bagged 2 each.
In reply, Akash Deep made early inroads, dismissing Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope in successive balls, while Siraj removed Zak Crawley. England stumbled to 77/3 at stumps, trailing by 510 runs.
