Delhi HC Accuses Jacqueline Fernandez Of Misleading Probe, Hiding Evidence In Sukesh Chandrashekhar Money Laundering Case; Denies Relief

The Delhi High Court on Thursday came down heavily on actress Jacqueline Fernandez and refused to quash the money laundering case against her, accusing her of misleading the investigation. She was named in the money laundering case related to conman Sukesh Chandrashekhar, whom she was dating.The bench of Justice Anish Dayal rejected the petition by Jacqueline's counsel which demanded that the criminal proceedings against her be quashed. The actress was accused of receiving expensive gifts from 'boyfriend' Sukesh, who is currently in jail in the Rs 200 crore money laundering case.'She wanted to mislead the investigation': Delhi HCRejecting her plea, the court said that she tried to mislead the investigating officers and conceal information. "The statements reveal that petitioner deliberately varied the narration of facts to mislead the investigation. She initially denied knowing the actual name of Sukesh, which, later on, upon being confronted with evidence, was admitted by her," the court said."The issue of projecting it as untainted property was also evident, since petitioner did not disclose various gifts given to her and her family in one go, but only during further investigation and interrogation," it added.'Jacqueline hid crucial information, admitted them later': EDThe ED had accused Jacqueline of hiding crucial information from the agency at the start of the investigation, but admitting them later after being questioned repeatedly. The agency also claimed that the actress deleted data from her phone to hide evidence that was important to the case.On basis of these accusations and submissions, the Delhi HC refused to quash the charges against her in the money laundering case.What Is The Sukesh Chandreshekhar Case?Sukesh, who is the primary accused in a multi-crore fraud, is currently lodged in a Delhi jail. Jacqueline was reportedly dating him until the time he was arrested.The actress has been accused of enjoying gifts that were bought using the proceeds of the extortion racket, however, she denied any involvement in the scam. In fact, she had earlier claimed that she was 'maliciously targeted' by Sukesh. Jacqueline also maintained that she did not receive any gifts from Sukesh and informed the court that the conman 'ruined' her career and life.
