Guwahati, July 4: Train operations connecting South Assam, Tripura, Manipur, and Mizoram with the rest of India through Guwahati resumed on Friday after a brief halt caused by landslides, according to officials.

On Thursday, train services in the Lumding-Badarpur Hill Section were interrupted due to landslides that severely impacted the railway tracks in the hilly regions of Dima Hasao district.

Kapinjal Kishore Sharma, the Chief Public Relations Officer of Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR), confirmed that train services in the Lumding–Badarpur Hill section were restored following a landslide that occurred between Dihakho and Mupa stations.

The landslide resulted in large boulders and debris falling onto the tracks, temporarily halting train operations, he explained.

“Train services through the Dihakho-Mupa section resumed on Friday morning, with the Agartala–Lokmanya Tilak Terminus Express being the first train to traverse the restored tracks,” Sharma noted.

He added that senior railway officials promptly arrived at the site after the landslides on Thursday and worked tirelessly throughout the night to clear the debris and restore the tracks safely.

Help desks established at Guwahati, Lumding, Silchar, Badarpur, and Agartala stations continued to assist passengers during the disruption, providing timely updates until normal operations were fully reinstated.

Stranded passengers were also provided with essential food and water. Trains that had been rescheduled or delayed at various points have now resumed their regular journeys.

Passengers are advised to verify train schedules through official railway inquiry channels for the latest updates.

Additionally, after a week of interruptions due to landslides in the same Lumding-Badarpur Hill section, regular train services fully resumed on June 30.

The crucial train services in this section had been disrupted since June 23 due to landslides that significantly affected the railway tracks in the mountainous areas of Assam's Dima Hasao district.

Every year during the monsoon season (June to September), several northeastern states, particularly Tripura, Mizoram, Manipur, and southern Assam, often face isolation from the rest of the country for weeks due to landslides, waterlogging, and damage to railway infrastructure, causing significant challenges for local residents.
