New Delhi: The Indian cricket team looked in a strong position on the second day of the Birmingham Test against England. On the basis of Captain Shubman Gill’s record-breaking innings of 269 runs, Team India scored 587 runs in the first innings. On the third day, the host team came to play with 3 wickets at 77 runs, and Mohammed Siraj gave two consecutive shocks to the team. Half the team had returned at 84 runs and what happened after that was not expected by anyone. Jamie Smith came and created such a havoc with the bat that it broke Kapil Dev’s 43-year-old record.
England’s wicketkeeper batsman came at number 7 and played an innings that changed the course of the match. When captain Ben Stokes returned without opening his account, the pressure was completely on the England team. Along with Harry Brook, this batsman not only scored runs at a rapid pace but also made a record. Smith has now become the fastest batsman to score a century in the Test series played between India and England. He left Kapil Dev behind.
Jamie Smith, batting at number 7 in the first innings for England, completed his century in just 80 balls. With this stormy century, he broke Kapil Dev’s 43-year-old record. Kapil Dev had made the record of the fastest century in a Test match played between India and England. In the 1982 Kanpur Test, Kapil Dev completed 100 runs in 86 balls against England.
