Fit India Sundays on Cycle: A Nationwide Movement

The 30th edition of the Fit India Sundays on Cycle initiative is set to take place on July 6 at 6000 locations throughout the nation, in collaboration with Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs). This one-day event aims to engage over 50,000 participants in cycling for a healthier, pollution-free India.

Launched by Mansukh Mandaviya, the Minister of Youth Affairs & Sports, in December 2024, the 'FIT India Sundays on Cycle' campaign has successfully attracted thousands of participants weekly, promoting fitness across the country.

The main event will commence at 7 AM from the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium, with cyclists traversing around India Gate C Hexagon and proceeding to Vijay Chowk on Kartavya Path before returning to the stadium.

Mandaviya emphasized, “Fit India Sundays on Cycle has evolved into a widespread movement. This week, we are collaborating with RWAs to encourage all citizens to engage in fitness activities like cycling and yoga, which can help combat lifestyle diseases and lower pollution levels in their communities.”

The initiative aims to foster sustainability and strengthen connections with local communities across India. Official estimates suggest there are approximately 5-6 lakh RWAs in the country, which play a crucial role in promoting healthy and active lifestyles. These associations are motivating residents to participate in daily cycling, yoga, and fitness activities.

The cycling event will occur simultaneously in the capitals of all States and Union Territories, as well as at SAI Regional Centres, National Centres of Excellence (NCOEs), SAI Training Centres (STCs), Khelo India State Centres of Excellence (KISCEs), and Khelo India centres (KICs) for various age groups.

Previous events have seen participation from Indian Army personnel, Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), Goods & Services Tax Council, Physical Education Foundation of India (PEFI), and notable sports figures such as Lovlina Borgohain, Priyanka Goswami, Rani Rampal, and many others, including celebrities like Amit Sial and Gul Panag.
