Court's Displeasure Over Investigation Reports

The Uttarakhand High Court has expressed its dissatisfaction regarding the submission of contradictory reports by two investigating officers in a murder case. One officer filed a final report exonerating the accused, while the other submitted a charge sheet implicating the same individual.

Hearing on Bail Application

During a hearing on the bail application of the accused, Justice Rakesh Thapliyal summoned the Director General of Police (DGP) and the relevant Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) to appear before the court.

Details of the Case

This case is linked to a clash between two groups over a land dispute in the Manglaur area of Haridwar district, which resulted in one fatality and injuries to seven others. The accused had filed a bail application seeking release.

Conflicting Investigations

Both investigating officers appeared before the court via video conference during the proceedings. After reviewing a video clip presented by the state government, the court noted that a single charge sheet should have been filed for both investigations.

Concerns Over Investigation Process

However, one First Information Report (FIR) had a charge sheet filed, while the other FIR had a final report submitted by the investigating officer, despite both being related to the same criminal incident. The court remarked that the appointment of two different officers for the same case led to conflicting investigative conclusions. It suggested that a single officer handling the case could have resulted in a more accurate report, indicating that the investigation was conducted improperly.
