New Delhi: Star batter KL Rahul’s impressive innings came to an unfortunate end on Saturday after Josh Tongue bowled a beautiful delivery to get rid of the right-hander during India’s second innings on Day 4 of Edgbaston Test.
Rahul, who scored a brilliant half-century contributing in swelling India’s overall lead, succumbed in front of a sensational ball bowled by Tongue that uprooted the middle stump. Rahul played a fierce knock of 55 runs off 84 deliveries which included as many as 10 boundaries to take India ahead on the fourth day.
With already a lead of 180 runs in the pocket, India managed to cross the 300-run mark with ease during Rahul’s presence on the crease. Rahul’s wicket was the only one England managed to take during the first session of the second-last day.

Meanwhile, after Rahul’s departure, skipper Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant stabilised India’s innings taking forward the ship with confidence. When Lunch was called by the umpires, the visitors had crossed an overall lead of 350 runs with two of the most solid batters in fine touch on the crease.
While Gill was playing more of a temperamental innings, Pant was in a fierce touch as he started accelerating with his entertaining shots. India would be aiming to accumulate maximum runs on the fourth day and that too in quick time and hand over the batting to the English side, leaving the fate in the hands of the bowlers.
