A fierce fire in Vishal Mega Mart in Karol Bagh, Delhi killed two people on Saturday evening. The dead include a 25 -year -old youth Kumar Dhirendra Pratap, who was trapped in the lift at the time of the accident. His last message was received by his elder brother Virendra Vikram, in which he wrote, “Brother, now it is breathing … do something.”

No help reached for hours

Virendra told that at around 6:51 pm on Saturday evening, he received his younger brother’s WhatsApp message and call, in which he told that he is trapped in the lift of Mega Mart and is suffocating. Dhirendra went there for shopping. As soon as the message was received, Virendra immediately called the police, but his pain increased when no help reached for several hours.

Virendra alleged that the police reached the spot after 9 pm. By then, he had been requested several times. He said that I just kept hoping that someone would save him in a time, but it did not happen.

Store employees visible negligence

The serious thing was that the staff of the store showed negligence. Virendra says that the staff shut down electricity and escaped from the spot, while his brother was struggling with life and death in the lift. He said that till 2:30 pm, the store management did not accept that someone was trapped inside.

When Dhirendra’s body was recovered during the rescue operation, he had lost his life in smoke. Virendra told that the interiors of his body were burnt and there was bleeding from his nose. This moment broke me.

According to the family, Dhirendra recently took the UPSC Prelims exam and returned to the city after the holiday. He lived in a rented house in Karol Bagh. His mother is in Banaras and till now he has not been told the whole truth of the accident, because he will not bear this shock.
