If you have invested in mutual funds from different places, sometimes through SIPs, sometimes in tax saving schemes, sometimes by investing a lump sum, then after some time it becomes difficult to understand where all your money is invested and how much return you are getting. In such a situation, one thing comes to your rescue, which is your PAN number. Now you will be able to know all your investments just from your PAN number and know how this will be possible (Photo courtesy – iStock)
Why is PAN number your biggest strength?
PAN number is not just for filing taxes, it links all your mutual fund investments to you. No matter how much money you have invested and in which fund, every investment will be linked to the same PAN. This allows you to see the money stuck in different folios. This means that information about each fund is available in one place and it also makes it easier to report taxes or capital gains.
CAS report will tell the entire investment
Thanks to SEBI regulations and digital technology, now you don’t need to go to each fund’s website and log in. Now you can view your Consolidated Account Statement (CAS) just through your PAN. This is a report that contains information about all the mutual fund folios linked to your name, such as when you invested, in which scheme, how many units you have, what is the current value, whether the SIP is active or not, and how much return you got.
How to view your CAS report?
To get this report, you just need to follow these steps:
If the investment is not visible
Sometimes it may happen that some investments do not appear in your CAS report. This does not mean that the money is lost. It may be that the folio is linked to another PAN (such as a joint holder) or your KYC is incomplete. The solution to this is to update the KYC in your folio. You can easily complete eKYC through Aadhaar on websites like CAMS or KFintech.
MITRA: A new way to find forgotten investments
SEBI has launched a new platform, MITRA, i.e. Mutual Fund Investment Tracing And Reclaim Application, in March 2024. If you think you have invested earlier and now have forgotten it, then go to MITRA, enter PAN and date of birth and trace old investment funds. This is especially beneficial for those who have inherited investments. That is, those who had invested offline before 2010, whose folio does not have an email or mobile number registered.
