With the arrival of monsoon in India, heavy rains are being witnessed in different states. Heavy rains have wreaked havoc in Uttarakhand and Himachal. People are facing huge problems due to landslides and floods here. Meanwhile, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a weather alert for different states, predicting heavy to very heavy rains in different parts of the country. Meanwhile, due to several active monsoon systems, continuous and heavy rains are expected in the northwest, central, eastern and coastal states.

How will the weather be in Delhi?

Delhi-NCR received heavy rains on Friday night, bringing relief to people from the scorching heat. The Meteorological Department has observed a sudden change in the weather conditions in the region and has predicted thunderstorms and sporadic rains in the coming days. According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of intermittent rains along with a slight drop in temperature in the National Capital Region between July 4 and 6. There is a possibility of thunderstorms around July 5 and 6, which will further reduce the heat. However, the wind direction may change during this time.

Heavy rain likely in northwest India

IMD said that due to active monsoon trough and cyclonic circulation, East Rajasthan is likely to receive extremely heavy rainfall, while Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Punjab and Haryana may receive widespread rainfall between July 5 and 9. Rainfall activity is expected to peak between July 6 and 7 in these areas. Scattered thunderstorms, lightning and strong winds (30-40 km/h) are expected along with rain, especially in Uttar Pradesh and Jammu region. There is also a risk of floods due to moderate to heavy rains in hilly areas.

Heavy rains expected in western India

According to the Meteorological Department, the western coastal region, including Konkan, Goa and ghat areas of Maharashtra, is on alert due to moisture coming from the Arabian Sea and a strong offshore trough. Extremely heavy rainfall is forecast on July 4 and then between July 6 and 7, especially in South Konkan, Goa and Madhya Maharashtra. Gujarat, Saurashtra and Kutch are also likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall this week. There is a possibility of flash floods in low-lying areas of Saurashtra.

Heavy rains predicted in central and eastern India

According to the Meteorological Department, a strong convergence of the monsoon system is expected to cause heavy rains in Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh and Odisha. There will be very heavy rains in eastern Madhya Pradesh from July 4 to 7, followed by heavy rains in western Madhya Pradesh. The rise of rivers and waterlogging in low-lying urban areas remain the main concern. Odisha is expected to receive very heavy rains till July 5. Due to this, there is a danger of floods in urban areas. Apart from this, very heavy rains may occur at different places in Chhattisgarh on July 6 and 7. Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal are likely to receive continuous rains with strong winds and thunderstorms till July 9.

Northeast India: Landslide threat in Meghalaya

According to the Meteorological Department, rainfall activity remains active in Northeast India due to cyclonic circulation over Assam. States like Assam and its neighbouring areas are likely to receive moderate to heavy rainfall along with thunderstorms and lightning throughout the week. A high alert has been issued for extremely heavy rains in Meghalaya on July 6. The IMD has also issued a warning about the increased risk of landslides in sensitive hilly areas.

How will the weather be in Southern India?

Let us tell you that Southern India is also not untouched by the rain. Heavy to very heavy rains are expected in coastal Karnataka and Kerala till July 9. During this time the wind speed can reach 50 km/h and the sea condition can be bad. There is a possibility of local flooding in urban centers like Kochi. Apart from this, there will be rain of varying intensity in the interior areas of Karnataka, Mahe, Telangana and Tamil Nadu. Heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected in Telangana on July 4.
