Vaibhav Suryavanshi came out with the secret that his inspiration for his record-breaking knock against England U19 was the way Shubman Gill played in the second Test of the current five-match series. For the uninitiated, Suryavanshi smashed a 52-ball century against England U19 in the fourth Youth ODI of the series, the quickest in Youth ODI history.

The Samastipur-born too voiced his wish to have lasted longer at the crease and not been dismissed at 143 on the first ball of the 28th over of the innings. He also revealed that his next target was to play out the full 50 overs and reach a double-ton.

Here is what he shared while speaking to BCCI after the game

"I did not know that I had broken the record. I got a lot of inspiration from Shubman Gill when he scored his 100 and 200. He kept at it and took it forward," shared the opening batter while speaking to BCCI after the game.

"I could have batted for longer. There were still 20 overs left in the match. I could have played a longer innings. I got out to a shot that I was not able to execute 100 per cent, but I wanted to bat long like him. There is no celebration. I will just be happy that I was able to do well for the team. My next goal will be to hit 200 and play a full 50 overs," he added.

Talking about the game, India U19 scored 363/9 in their entire quota of 50 overs on the strength of hundreds from Suryavanshi (143 from 78) and Vihaan Malhotra (129 from 121). Sebastian Morgan (3/54 in 10 overs) and Jack Home (4/63 in 8 overs) were among the wickets for the host.

The English openers had begun rather well. They had managed to create a century stand between them. However, with a 91-ball 107-run effort by Rocky Flintoff, it was not to be as there were barely any other contributions from the middle-order batsmen. Naman Pushpak (3/63 in 8.3 overs) picked up a three-fer, as the visitors triumphed by 55 runs.
