According to the Garuda Purana, there are 36 types of hell, where the soul is given different torture according to its sins.

Rebirth and theory of 84 million vagaries
It has also been told in the Garuda Purana that man not only gets torture of hell, but he also has to take birth in 84 lakh vaginas-such as animals, birds, insects, waterchers, trees etc. These births are also considered punishment for a kind of soul.
