Armed police officers have stormed Parsons Green London Underground Station in southwest London as they respond to reports of an individual armed with a gun.
An eyewitness said she saw "machine-gun police like you see in the airport" at the scene. She also heard reports of a "man with a gun on the tube", adding that "there were four vans, with armed police".
As reported by the Mirror, British Transport Police were called shortly before 11.30am. It was reported that a man was carrying a weapon but officers could not find the reported suspect.
Police said: "Officers were called to Parsons Green Underground station just before 11.30am today (7 July) following reports of a man with a weapon. Officers attended, including firearms officers, and they conducted a thorough search of the station, however no trace of the person was found."
People have since taken to social media to react to the incident. They are warning others of the travel disruption caused.
One tube traveller said on X: "District Line: No service between Earl's Court and Wimbledon while TFL respond to a customer incident at Parsons Green.
"SEVERE DELAYS between Edgware Road and Earl's Court due to a signal failure at Putney Bridge. If you're travelling beyond Earl's Court, take the first train ..."
Another X user, Stefania Ricci, said passengers were being turned away from the station.
A third added: "No service on District Line between Parsons Green and Wimbledon due to passenger incident at Parsons Green."
A fourth, named Lisa, wrote: "Feeling very uneasy .... tried to get the tube back to Putney from Wimbledon ... but station now closed due to this incident ... Hoping no one is hurt."
