Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): With just the beginning of the monsoon season, several reservoirs in Madhya Pradesh are nearing or touching brim levels. Intermittent to moderate rainfall over the past two days specially in the eastern region of the Madhya Pradesh has led to a surge in the water level of many dams.

A few dams of western regions also recorded good rainfall in their catchment areas, leading to rise in the water level. This early surge suggests a promising monsoon season ahead, with most reservoirs expected to fill up adequately in the coming weeks.

Eastern MP receive bountiful rains

As per the latest status report from the Water Resources Department, the Kaketo reservoir in Gwalior has surpassed its full reservoir level and now stands at 342.93 meters, with a filling percentage of 102.01%. Similarly, the filling percentage of Kotwal Feeder reservoir of Morena is 100 % and its water level is 168.40 meters. 

Due to heavy downpour in eastern MP, Bansagar dam in Shahdol has reached 338.09 meters taking the filling percentage to 66.21% , while Bargi dam in Jabalpur has swelled to 418.40 meters, pegging its filling percentage at 64.09%.

Western MP still waiting for rain

Major dams in the western part of the state are still below 50% capacity as this region is yet to receive adequate rainfall. The major dams in this region still below the half water level mark include, Kerwa dam( Bhopal), Kolar dam (Sehore), Indira Sagar dam (Khandwa) and others.

Major rivers flowing below maximum level

Currently, all the major rivers are flowing below their maximum water level. Against its maximum water level of 431.50 meters, Betwa river at the gauge station of Neemkheda in Raisen is flowing at 415.55 meters.

Chambal river in Ratlam is flowing at 409.46 meters against its maximum water level of 419.10 meters. Narmada river at Barman Ghat in Narsinghpur is flowing at a water level of 313.47 meters against its maximum water level of 323 meters.
