Jackie Shroff became a star in 80s following his debut release Hero but he never let stardom get into his head. Despite delivering several hits for years he continued to live in a Mumbai chawl where he grew up. Later peoples love for him evolved after watching his incredible craft on-screen. Since he used to live in a chawl where there were common toilets used by everyone his friends and well-wishers decided to gift him a private washroom. When Jackie Shroffs neighbours gifted him a private washroom Recounting their sweet gesture in a conversation with Filmfare Jackie Shroff said I got this film I didn’t have a cupboard. Cupboard came later first the suit came. And when the cupboard came the entire chawl had assembled to see the cupboard. It was that kind of place and time. I learnt the value of things there. There were three washrooms and after I became an actor they gave me one washroom. He revealed that the chawl had on three washrooms shared by 30 people and the neighbours didnt want him or his guests to stand in queue anymore. After I became an actor producers and directors would come to meet me in that chawl. Whenever they had to use the washroom they had to stand in line. The chawl people didn’t like it. So they told me ‘You have become such a star. We don’t like it when you or your friends stand in queue to use the washroom. We are gifting you the washroom.’ I told them I didn’t need it and my friends didn’t have an issue standing in queue. But they insisted. The washroom used to have a lock on it he said. Ayesha being the daughter of Air Vice Marshal Ranjan Dutt came from a privileged background. Despite that she adapted to the harsh realities of Jackies world. From selling her house to standing in queues for washroom she embraced the modest life with him. Jackie in several interviews have expressed gratitude for his wife and the sacrifices she did to support him. According to him she was not just there for him emotionally but financially too. The couple got married in 1987 and are blessed with two children- Tiger Shroff and Krishna Shroff.
