The Bengal Provincial Bank Employees Union, affiliated to the All India Bank Employees Association, on Monday announced that it would join the nationwide strike of the banking sector on July 9 called by the central labor unions against the economic policies of the Center. The Bengal Provincial Bank Employees Union said that the labor unions of the banking sector, including the All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA), All India Bank Officers Association (AIBOA), and the Bank Employees Federation of India (BEFI), have decided to join the general strike on Wednesday.

Why is the strike being done?

In a statement issued by the union, it was said that the insurance sector has also decided to join the strike. Work in the banking sector and other financial sectors related to it (such as insurance companies, financial services, etc.) will be completely halted. The Bank Employees Union said that more than 15 crore employees are expected to join the strike against the anti-labor policies and pro-corporate economic reforms of the central government.

How many people will be involved?

The unions claim that more than 15 crore employees will participate in this strike. It will include many employees from banking, insurance, government, and the private sector. In such a situation, bank branches may remain closed, and facilities like check clearance and customer service may be affected.

Who will go on strike?

The Bengal Provincial Bank Employees Union, which is associated with the All India Bank Employees Association (AIBEA), has informed that bank unions like AIBEA, AIBOA, and BEFI will also join the strike. Not only banks, but also employees of the insurance sector are going to participate in this strike. That means financial services may be affected a lot.

Advice to the public

If you have important banking work like cash withdrawal, check deposit, or any documentation process, then complete it before July 9. Digital banking services (like UPI, net banking) will continue to run normally.
