New Delhi: Elon Musk, the CEO of xAI, has announced the release of the newest version of the AI chatbot by the company, Grok 4. It will be revealed on July 9 at 8:00 PM Pacific Time, which will be 8:30 AM IST on July 10. Musk announced the news through a tweet on X, writing, “Grok 4 release livestream on Wednesday at 8pm PT @xAI.” This is after he teased in June that the model would be revealed just after July 4.
The news has set the tech community abuzz, but there is still some scepticism, given a prior announcement of Grok 3.5 that never came to fruition. xAI seems to be jumping over that version and going straight to Grok 4 in order to compete with other GPTs, such as OpenAI and Anthropic. The live broadcast, which will take place on X, is likely to show the high level of Grok 4 and its performance in terms of coding and reasoning.

Grok 4 is set to be the most powerful AI model of xAI so far. Musk has hinted at a “customised coding model”, which implies more features to programmers. Initial shows suggest that the model, which is under the codename grok-4-0629, will be particularly good at natural language processing, math, and reasoning. xAI’s console has already mentioned Grok 4’s API access, meaning that it will be able to work on text-based tasks with the ability to generate vision and images in the future.

“Grok 4 now available – We’re proud to bring you Grok 4 access on the API. Grok 4 currently supports text modality with vision, image gen and other capabilities coming soon.”

The model is expected to surpass competitors such as ChatGPT and Google Gemini. X testers have identified such variants as grok-4-prod-mimic, which is meant to carry out the business processes of data extraction and content summary. Grok 4 might attract the attention of both laymen and specialists, as it possesses expertise in such areas as finance, healthcare, and legal studies.
Livestream details and accessThe Grok 4 launch is going to be streamed live on X, and it is free to all users. They can get in the loop of viewing by going onto the xAI official handle (@xAI) at 8:00 PM PT July 9. The event will include an on-site demo, where people will have a chance to interact with the chatbot in real-time. Musk and xAI developers will probably point to advances of Grok 3, which came out in February 2025 and was 10 times faster than its predecessor.
Depending on the tiered rollout strategy of xAI, to those willing to give Grok 4 a go, access may be restricted to X Premium+ subscribers or SuperGrok users. Grok 4 could also be included in applications via the API to the company launched in April 2025 with Grok 3.
Why the rush to Grok 4?Grok 3.5 was chosen to be bypassed because of the strong competition within the AI industry. In a June 27 tweet on X, Musk wrote that he was grinding all night with the xAI team to complete Grok 4, with a big run on its coding implementation. This is necessitated by competitors such as the DeepSeek R1 model, among others, that can outcompete industry giants with their cost-effective, high-performance AI. xAI Colossus supercomputer, which hosts more than 200,000 Nvidia GPUs, trains Grok 4 so it can perform complex tasks.
Questions of bias and reliability, however, remain. Earlier iterations of Grok had issues with fact-checking, particularly with identifying media created by AI at world events. Musk has promised Grok 4 to be as truth-seeking as possible, but researchers warn that human-touched training data can still cause biases.
